Powertrain or Bumper-to-Bumper: Which Warranty Is Best for You?

Whether you're in the market for a new or pre-owned vehicle, you'll probably see either a powertrain or bumper-to-bumper warranty being offered for it. To determine which warranty will better suit your needs, here's what each offers.

A powertrain warranty covers anything relating to the vehicle's propulsion system, including the engine and the transmission. While other parts, like the differential, are also covered, a powertrain warranty won't cover parts that are expected to wear, such as belts. A bumper-to-bumper warranty covers almost everything, including electronics, climate control and audio components. However, features such as glass, interior surfaces and, ironically, bumpers, aren't covered. Either warranty will give you peace of mind when it comes to major repairs to the vehicle's main systems.
