A Timing Belt: How to Tell if it's Worn Out

It can be confusing understanding all of the components of your vehicle, but we can help you understand your vehicle a bit better. A timing belt is an important component that helps your engine function properly, but what happens if it goes bad? It could damage the engine and lead to costly repairs.

A timing belt rotates the crankshaft and camshaft in sync to make certain the cylinder fires at the proper time. It also controls the valves and pistons in the engine so that they open at the same time.

The timing belt in your vehicle is typically sealed to prevent it from becoming contaminated with dirt and oil, which can make it hard to inspect on your own. However, there are warning signs that will let you know your timing belt needs to be replaced. If you notice a clicking sound coming from the engine, the timing belt may be worn out. Another sign of a worn timing belt is when your engine misfires. Be sure to have your timing belt looked at if you notice these signs.
